Do the great Pyrenees shed a lot?

The shedders of the Great Pyrenees are classified as “medium to heavy.” So, there will undoubtedly be those furballs who shed even more heavily in terms of shedding. From a less academic standpoint, I’d say they shed a lot over the majority of the year and then go crazy in the spring.

The truth is that the Great Pyrenees’ coats aren’t especially low-maintenance. The problem with fluffy breeds is that shedding causes tangles, while the Pry’s coat rarely, if ever, becomes matted.

The solution to that problem is good grooming, which entails regular brushing, which isn’t as difficult as you think.

The great Pyrenees are an average to high shedding breed with a long topcoat and thick undercoat. They tend to lose more fur during spring, though, as they shed their thick winter coat. So, you should expect to put some effort into brushing, but they’re not a very high maintenance dog overall.
